World DRI output down 2.03 percent in April over March

According to the preliminary data released by the World Steel Association (worldsteel), global direct reduced iron (DRI) production in April this year totaled 4.79 million metric tons, declining by 2.03 percent compared to March and up by 11.66 percent year on year. In March the highest monthly output volume had been achieved since October 2008.
Meanwhile, in the first four months of 2010, global DRI output came to 19.18 million metric tons, rising by 13. 1 percent compared to the corresponding period of 2009.
The worldsteel data show that India is the largest DRI producer among the countries surveyed in April, with a DRI output of 1.67 million metric tons, down 2.79 percent month on month and down 1.77 percent year on year, followed by Iran and Mexico, with outputs of 828,000 mt and 475,000 mt respectively.
