The project features an electric arc furnace (EAF) flux charging system and a ladle metallurgy furnace/vacuum oxygen degasser (LMF/VOD) alloy and flux material feed system, as well as a hot briquetted iron (HBI) feed system. Tenova Core is also supplying some of the equipment for the carbon injection system, including the carbon material storage silo and first transport vessel. All systems will be designed to efficiently and reliably feed the melt shop process equipment. Tenova Core will also design the necessary process control and automation systems to operate the material handling systems.
As SteelOrbis previously reported, as a result of the implementation of the phase II project at Severstal Columbus, the plant's crude steel capacity will increase to 3.4 million mt.
