(RTTNews) - BHP Billiton announced that Iron ore output for the March quarter of 31.164 million tonnes, representing 11% growth from the year-ago comparable quarter, but down 4% sequentially.
For the nine-month ended March 2010, Iron ore output was 93.719 million tonnes, up 7% from the comparable period in 2008.
Iron ore production was higher than last year due to the successful delivery of growth projects. Western Australia Iron Ore Rapid Growth Project 4 ramp up is progressing well. However, current quarter production was impacted by weather related disruptions and project tie-in activities at Western Australia Iron Ore.
Total Petroleum Products production was 36.84 million boe, up 16% from the same period last year, but down 4% sequentially.
Total Petroleum Products Production declined against the December 2009 quarter due to expected lower seasonal demand in eastern Australia and the planned manifold installation at Atlantis. The Atlantis manifold installation is expected to continue into the beginning of the June 2010 quarter.
