As announced by Chinese steel giant Baosteel, its subsidiary Meishan Iron and Steel (Meigang), based in Nanjing in the eastern Chinese province of Jiangsu, has put its newly-constructed No. 4 coke oven - China's first independently-integrated seven-meter coke oven - into production. The launch of the new coke oven, which has an annual capacity of 750,000 mt of metallurgical coke, will enable Meigang to reduce its purchase volume of coke and to cut its steelmaking costs by RMB 120 millon ($17.58 million).
The coke oven in question features a zone-firing function and a wider carbonization chamber. It is the first part of Meigang's second-phase construction project to be put into production.
